Pre-GED Course Outline
Course
Description: This course
will cover various academic topics relevant to the GED.
Course
Hours: Mondays thru
Thursdays from 9AM - 11:30AM
Prerequisites: Placement in this course is dependent upon
individual CASAS assessment results.
Text: Contemporary's Pre-GED: Fundamentals for the
High School Equivalency Examination. There
are three distinct texts we will be using: Math, Reading, and Writing.
Objectives/Competencies: The primary objective of this course is to
establish and reinforce student
understanding of the various academic topics covered in the GED. Essentially, students will be introduced to complex
concepts while gaining the ability to exhibit and express their understanding of such concepts in both the GED and
beyond.
Units of Study: This course will focus on developing Math, Reading,
and Writing skills.

Each
day, we will review a given topic on a specific subject. These topics have been
carefully planned to enhance student success in the various academic subjects.
v
Our
daily course routine will include instructor directed lessons and also
opportunities for independent practice.
v
I
strongly encourage my students to actively participate in the daily lessons.
Additionally, students are encouraged to take full advantage of independent
practice time to ask questions and/or review any topics they find challenging.
v
We will
also have use of the computer lab on specific days (please refer to the course
schedule for dates)
Evaluation Procedures:
Students will be evaluated using
the following: CASAS scores, GED Pre/Post Test scores, formal and informal
in-class assessments including written assignments, quizzes, and
question/answer.
Repetition Policy:
Students may repeat as
needed until their CASAS scores indicate that they are ready to move on to the
Learning Center section.
Expectations:
Ø Come to class on time,
Mondays thru Thursdays --- ready to work.
Ø Students are to bring a
notebook, study notes, a positive
attitude, and a pen and pencil to class every day.
Ø If you need to be absent,
please call the school and leave a message for me with the office staff.
Ø All students are expected to
work quietly and to have respect for their peers and their instructors.
Ø Students are responsible for
their personal belongings and will ensure that they do not interfere with the
class; this includes mobile technology.
Ø This course is intended to
be a high-powered GED preparation program. Enrollment and space is limited so
please plan to attend regularly.
